Saint Jean-Baptiste Day Fête nationale du Québec, celebrated on June 24, honours the birth of the religious figure John the Baptist. French Canadians and Francophiles commemorate the feast of the nativity all over the world. This celebration is recognized most in the Canadian province of Quebec. However, Canadian ex-pats or other French nationals celebrate this holiday as well.

This holiday originates as a celebration for the religious leader Jean-Baptiste, or John the Baptist. These celebrations began in 1925 as an official holiday. However, there are records of celebrating it back to 1834 where Ludger Duvernay created a festival that mirrored that of Saint Patrick he observed while in Montreal. This act led to an established association in 1849 that promoted Jean-Baptiste Day as a holiday pushing for moral and social change.

How to Celebrate Saint Jean-Baptiste Day Fête nationale du Québec

For French Canadians, or those who choose to celebrate Jean-Baptiste Day, this day involves outdoor activities such as barbeques, parades, concerts, and firework displays.
