National Philanthropy Day is celebrated every year on November 15th. It is an unofficial holiday that aims to recognize the important contributions of philanthropy to our lives and how it changes the world for the better. Fundraising organization groups, charities, and civic groups will hold events and activities to mark this day, including award ceremonies, cookouts, and banquets.
The holiday was conceived in the 1980s to recognize the efforts of philanthropic acts. The first celebration commenced on November 15th, 1986, when the country’s leaders signed a proclamation for it to be an official day of recognition. The movement has grown exponentially, with over 130 chapters of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) participating in charitable events each year.
