This celebration looks to honour and support the men and women who currently serve or have served in the Canadian Armed Forces. Aside from supporting current members of the Canadian military, this popular holiday emphasizes the respect due to these men and women as well as getting to know them as people, not just soldiers of war.
The Canadian government proposed the Armed Forces holiday on April 25, 2002, to recognize Canadian men and women's sacrifices each day for their country. Once the motion reached the Canadian House of Commons, it took merely a month for the holiday to reach fruition. The Canadian prime minister cemented the holiday into existence on May 31, 2002.

Canadians participate in numerous activities to support Canadian Armed Forces Day.
