Middle Child Day was created to celebrate the uniqueness of middle children on August 12th of each year. The eldest “firstborn” children and youngest “baby” children have specific titles to make them feel special, but the lack of their own special role can leave middle children without a sense of where they fit into the family. This day gives families a chance to celebrate middle children and ensure they feel treasured.

The theory that birth order affects children, especially middle children, dates to 1870, but it wasn't until 1986 that Elizabeth Walker set aside a day just for middle children to acknowledge the hardship of being a middle child. Because of this, it makes sense to have a special day to remind the middle child how wonderful, unique, and treasured they are.

How to Celebrate Middle Child Day
