International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8 to mark the advocacy and support for women’s equality and rights around the globe.

The date became official in 1911 with the gathering and support of more than one million women who demanded recognition of their rights. Years after, the day is still celebrated by millions of people worldwide and marks a time when women made significant changes in almost all spheres of our society.

Everything started in 1908, when more than 15,000 women paraded through the stress of New York City, requiring better pay, shorter hours, and voting rights. In 1910, a group of working women organized a conference to discuss possible changes, and that’s when Clara Zetkin proposed the idea of an international women’s holiday.

How to Celebrate International Women’s Day

You can celebrate International Women’s Day in various ways. For example, you can recognize or support a local woman-owned brand, raise funds for a women’s charity organization, or educate yourself about the inspirational and famous women throughout history. You can also gather with your girlfriends to watch a movie that has a strong female lead.
