General Pulaski Memorial Day honors a famous General Casimir Pulaski on October 11th every year in the United States. This Polish nobleman and defender of freedom is a hero of the American Revolutionary War and the father of America's cavalry. Benjamin Franklin and the Marquis de Lafayette recruited Pulaski for service in 1777. He led troops at Brandywine Creek and the Battle on Snowshoes near White Plains against British commander Lord Cornwallis. His action helped to delay Cornwallis' plans to capture Washington D.C. He led many other battles across North Carolina until he died at the age of 34 from wounds received while defending Savannah, Georgia alongside Oglethorpe's militiamen.

Historians believe that General Pulaski was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1747. Every October 11th, people around the country gather to celebrate and honor his life's journey. Rousing speeches are given about him, commemorating this great man who sacrificed himself for our freedom.
