Donald Duck Day is celebrated on June 9 every year, and commemorates the birthday of one of Disney’s most iconic characters – the ill-tempered duck known as Donald. The character Donald Duck came about after Walt Disney heard Clarence Nash reciting “Mary Had a Little Lamb” in his “duck” voice. Soon thereafter, the world was introduced to Donald Duck on June 9, 1934 in his cartoon debut in “The Wise Little Hen”. Nash went on to voice Donald until 1984.

The moody and somewhat incomprehensible Donald Duck is one of Disney’s most popular icons, having appeared in more movies (200+) than any other Disney character. During Donald’s second appearance in Orphan’s Benefit, he was introduced to his best friend, Mickey Mouse. Soon after that, Donald’s girlfriend, Daisy Duck, along with his nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie, also made their debut. Donald Duck is so popular that TV Guide declared him as one of the 50 greatest cartoon characters of all time back in 2002. He is also a bit of a cultural phenomenon in Finland.
