Zero Tasking Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in November every year and coincides with Daylight Saving Time as a reminder to take a break from your hectic life and do nothing all day. Author Nancy Christie first coined the phrase Zero Tasking Day as a day on which we take that extra hour for ourselves and do with it what we please.
Daylight Saving Time started out of a necessity to help our burgeoning society work more efficiently based on the hours of available sunlight. An agricultural community needs to make the most out of the daylight they have for optimal productivity. Today, many states are opting out of following Daylight Saving Time, like Arizona and Hawaii, and more states are thinking about stopping this practice as our society is no longer agrarian-centric. Technology has updated our lives so we can work 24/7, and remembering to switch our clocks is more of an inconvenience than a necessity in this day and age.
