Sir John A. Macdonald Day is celebrated every year on January 11 to commemorate the first Prime Minister of Canada and one of the creators of the Confederation. John Alexander Macdonald drafted 50 of 72 resolutions that entrenched the structure for a united Canada. He used compromise and persuasion to get the government representatives to agree on the Confederation terms.
John Macdonald is also remembered for his selfless act in the development of Canada’s boundaries, the creation of the North-West Mounted Police, and the expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Macdonald’s contribution to the growth of Canada exceeded any of his previous colleagues.
