The book is titled after the main character, a scientist named Victor Frankenstein, who reanimates a monster. In the story, the creature is rejected and hated by everyone due to its unusual appearance.

Mary’s book has inspired more than 130 movies, documentaries, and TV shows. The first movie based on the book came out in 1910. This 15-minute silent film showed how Frankenstein created his monster. This was one of the first horror movies ever made.
