Child Health Day occurs on the first Monday of October. This day highlights kids' need for healthy growth and guidance, from the food they eat to the words they hear and the things they watch. The United States has been celebrating National Child Health Day since. President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed this day and Congress enacted it into law in 1928. In 1960, the date switched from May to the current date. This legislation recognized that child health is imperative to our national wellbeing. In America today, over 6 million children live with asthma, 39 million children under the age of 5 are obese or overweight, and 42% have dental cavities between ages 2 - 11. National Child Health Day highlights these issues and shows why we need to help care for these kids.
How to Celebrate Child Health Day
Put your child's health and wellbeing at the forefront on National Child Health Day. On this day, schedule your children for a general checkup with the family doctor or dentist and ensure that all of their vaccinations are up to date. Go for a refreshing walk in the park or cook one of their favorite healthy meals.
