National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day encourages parents to take their children to work every fourth Thursday in April. This annual event is designed as an educational program where children can explore the workplace by seeing what their parents do at work. Children get to see all the roles and requirements needed to run a business or project, and hopefully be inspired about their future prospects. Have your child see what a day in your work life is like. Perhaps they can join you on a conference call, or demonstrate to them what skills the job requires.

History of National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day started in 1993 as a way to encourage young girls to strive for success in their future careers. The event was first sponsored by the Ms. Foundation for Women and focused on empowering young girls and giving them the confidence to pursue their dreams.

In 2003, the event was expanded to include boys, and the name was changed to Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. This event is now celebrated annually in more than 3.5 million workplaces and more than 37 million children and adults participate.
