National Forget-Me-Not Day is celebrated every year on November 10 and officially honors disabled veterans with beautiful Forget-Me-Not flowers. National Forget-me-not Day was originally created in 1921 to raise funds for injured soldiers returning from World War I through sales of the flowers.

The government wasn’t prepared to help these disabled veterans and there weren’t any programs that the soldiers could turn to for help. Judge Robert S. Marx established the day to remind the nation of its veterans’ sacrifices and their needs after coming home. The day was Forget-me-not day and funds were raised by selling bouquets of the beautiful blue flowers.

The Forget-Me-Not is the official state flower of Alaska and symbolizes remembrance. It grows well through rocky places in the mountains of Alaska.

How to Celebrate Forget-Me-Not Day

To celebrate Forget-Me-Not Day this year, pick or buy a bouquet of Forget-Me-Nots and give them to a veteran that you know. Thank the veteran for their service. You can donate some money to the Disabled American Veterans foundation. Take the time to listen to a disabled veteran’s story.
