Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day is celebrated on the first Saturday of February every year. The backstory of this tasty “unofficial” holiday is just as sweet as the frosty treat. Word is that a mom named Florence from New York made up the holiday in the 1960s to entertain her children on a cold dreary winter morning. Only a great mom could have started such a tradition as Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day.

Ice cream is a treat that historians believe had its origin in Persian frozen desserts as far back as around 500 BCE. The infamous Roman emperor Nero reportedly used ice from the Italy’s Apennine mountains to mix with fruits and honey to concoct a sorbet-like treat. The Chinese emperor Tang from 618 CE often gets credit for making “real ice cream” by combining ice, milk, and various flavorings.
