Eat an Extra Dessert Day is celebrated every year on September 4, one of the happiest days of the year. On this day, you have an excellent excuse to eat a double portion of your favorite cake, choose something sweet instead of savory for breakfast, or treat yourself with delicious cookies for dinner.

The word “dessert” comes from the French word “desservir,” which means to clear the table after the main dish and bring out the good stuff. How often people eat dessert varies widely between families and cultural customs. Some serve dessert only on holidays, others have it once or twice a week, and some have it every day. In many homes, fruit is a popular dessert, while others prefer ice cream, pudding, cake, or cookies.
