Chocolate covered raisins were invented in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the Blumenthal Brothers Chocolate Company in 1927. They grew in popularity in the years that followed as a movie theater snack of choice and were commonly known as Raisinets. Nestle Corporation acquired the Raisinet brand in 1984. They sold the brand to Ferraro Group, which still makes Raisinets in the US under the Ferrara Candy Group.
