Bagel and Lox Day is celebrated on January 15 every year. This unofficial holiday is dedicated to the culinary treat that Jewish immigrants brought to the United States at the turn of the 19th century. Originally, Bagel and Lox Day was on February 9 but was moved to January 15 to not compete with Pizza Day.

Bagels are round breads with holes in the center, much like a doughnut. Their preparation is by boiling and then gently baking them. Traditionally, Jewish households eat bagels for breakfast with a schmear, which is a nice thick swipe of cream cheese.

Lox is the Yiddish word for smoked salmon. A bagel with lox is a popular breakfast or brunch choice. The lox, thinly sliced, sits atop a schmear of cream cheese on the bagel. The result is a party for your tastebuds! If you have never tried this Jewish delicacy, you are truly missing out.

How to Celebrate Bagel and Lox Day

There is nothing quite as delicious as bagel and lox from a Jewish deli, but since not everyone lives in range of a delicatessen, you can make it at home. Get a good quality bagel, some cream cheese, and then add the lox. You can buy lox at most major grocery stores, usually in or near the deli section. #BagelAndLoxDay
