Author’s Day is celebrated on the first of November every year and pays tribute to the hardworking American authors you love to read. Visionaries like Stephen King, Mark Twain, Agatha Christie, and J. D. Salinger have all impacted millions of lives through their stories. In 1928, Nellie Verne Burt McPherson was at her Illinois Women’s Club, where she first brought up the idea of dedicating a day to the authors she and the other members loved so much. In May of 1929, the club signed a resolution honoring American authors with their own day. The United States Department of Commerce officially made Author’s Day a national holiday twenty years later.
