National Peacekeepers Day is celebrated on August 9 as a Canadian holiday designated to remember the brave men and women who lost their lives on a peacekeeping mission when a Syrian missile shot down their plane. How to Celebrate National Peacekeepers Day

A national ceremony is held in Ottawa each year for Canadians who wish to honour the men and women who devote their lives to these peacekeeping efforts. This ceremony takes place at the Canadian National Peacekeeping Monument. It is organized by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian Armed Forces, the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping, and Veterans Affairs Canada.
